DES 1 - Introduction to Design

  • From this introductory course to design, I learned about famous designers, types of design, and the Gestalt principles of design. Thanks to the teaching from the design faculty at UC Davis, I learned that the best kind of design is human-centered design. "It's not just about making things look pretty; design is using creativity to solve problems that people have."
  • Created a mockup of an educational game with three peers to teach people design principles in a fun board game for the final project

DES 14 - Design Drawing

  • In this class, I practice drawing, sketching, and painting using real life images and my surrounds as reference models. I explored using the mediums like graphite, ink wash, ink, and watercolor, in my six different projects throughout the course.

DES 15 - Form and Color

  • Learned about and practiced color theory Had three of my pieces of work featured in the faculty hall

DES 16 - Graphic Design & Computer Technology

  • Learned how to use Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop to design for both real and fictional campaigns and companies
  • Designed a personal zine and advertising posters
  • This class was the first class I had ever taken for graphic design, and I found my knack for it when the professor wanted to include my work in his teaching portfolio. My most notable works from this class were March for Moms and Equity Music. I became so passionate about graphic design that I became the professor's teaching tutor.

DES 115 - Form and Color

  • Learned about typefaces, fonts, and typographical hierarchy in design 
  • Explored typefaces in class exercises and made presentations on all our work
  • Learned how to use Adobe Indesign to complete the class exercises
  • The final project tasked me to design a book layout for Paul Rand's Design and the Play Instinct.

  • Throughout the quarter, I learned about what goes into a product design and its marketing campaign. I also learned what a graphic standard is and how to put one together.
  • The class assignments were all small parts of the entire campaign, which I cumulatively dedicated to making Cocoonuts.

  • Learned how to use HTML5 and CSS on Atom.io to create a blog and a small portfolio website (not this website)

  • Learned how to use Adobe After Effects to produce 6 different letterform-based motion graphic exercises and a final project.
